IAMA Therapeutics

Restoring neuronal chloride homeostasis in serious central nervous system disorders.

A precision approach to neurological disorders based on restoring neuronal chloride homeostasis.

IAMA Therapeutics is developing novel small molecules for the treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders of the central nervous system.

Its lead candidate, IAMA-6, is a selective NKCC1 (cation-chloride cotransporter) inhibitor engineered to restore inhibitory neurotransmission and rebalance neuronal excitability — key mechanisms disrupted in various neurodevelopmental and CNS disorders.

The programme has successfully completed a first-in-human Phase 1 clinical study (NCT06300398), demonstrating a favourable safety and tolerability profile in healthy volunteers, together with a favourable pharmacokinetic profile. In preclinical models, IAMA-6 has shown robust efficacy in drug-resistant epilepsy and syndromic neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism spectrum disorder and Fragile X syndrome.

IAMA is now advancing the programme towards further clinical development, while exploring additional indications where NKCC1 dysregulation plays a role, such as schizophrenia and neuropathic pain.
